Not long after Resident Evil Outbreak arrived in the US, Capcom announced that they had already, in development a follow up - Resident Evil Outbreak: File 2.
The game features the same characters as Outbreak, but has them embarking on new adventures around and in Raccoon City. Set during the same time frame as the first game it depicts more scenario’s that players both online and offline can journey through in the ever continuing survival horror saga.
In addition to new scenarios, Capcom have increased the number of monsters and weapons as well as character special moves and abilities. The graphics generally remain untouched but the voice actors are different this time around. Indeed the game feels less of a sequel to Outbreak and more of an expansion pack. Interestingly though a couple of new additions to game stand out: For the first time ever in a traditional, camera angle driven Resident Evil game, players can now move and fire at the same time.
On the whole, it’s a continuation which pushes the idea of an Outbreak in Raccoon city to its limits. Just how many more labs can be found in the city? Just how many times can they take us to the RPD? All we know is that at the end of the games scenarios, players are awarded a “To Be Continued” screen, so chances of an Outbreak: File: 3 – which may contain the elusive ‘A Day in Raccoon’ motel scenario, and more, may still be on the cards. With Capcom – who knows?
