» REmake VS. Original » GRAPHICAL COMPARISON
--------------------------------------------------------

Resident Evil on the original Playstation looked great back in the year it was released. With gorgeous pre-rendered backdrops and high-polygon characters it was a jawdropper. Time is relentless and now when looking at it it looks terrible.

REmake looks drop dead gorgeous. It has some of the most detailed and lifelike characters and enemies ever seen in a game before

Needless to say which one is which. Capcom has added some more dramatic camera angles along with a new, sparkly and shiny floor for the main hall. Everything now looks more grand, and majestic and with the small candles and chandeliers illuminating the hall it makes for a great atmosphere. One thing you can't tell from the pics is that whenever lighting strikes it illuminates the hall in a realistic fashion. Very nice indeed.

Again you can see the moody lighting doing it's job. The walls are occupied with paintings and other pictures. The tapestry is worn out and intricately detailed compared to the bland, single-colored walls of the original.

Some colors and tones have been altered drastically in some areas. Also the floor once again has been made reflective and even windows have been added to provide more moody lighting and ways for unwanted guests to burst in.

The exteriors were really bland in the original but in the Remake it seems like a jungle, with wild growing vegetation and incredible waterfalls. Subtle touches like grass swaying in the howling wind and fog hovering around adds up to the atmosphere.

In the next series we'll be comparing the Shark Tank found in the Guardhouse. It has some of the most beautiful water effects ever.

The Neptune-pool has been completely revamped, instead of a square-shaped tank it has a cylinder which you can enter and the pool itself is situated around the cylinder- shaped monitoring room. The water effects are amazing, distorting everything beneath them and reflecting lights and everything above them. The sight of the huge shark Neptune floating beneath you is truly an intimidating experience.

Last we'll compare some images from the final area of the game, the laboratory.

The lab has changed from the sterile-like from the original to the dark, murky and rusty- version of the REmake. Everything seems broken, pipes leak and it just seems like it's been abandoned or unused for a long while.

That about covers it. It's amazing how fast technology advances. In a few years we may be laughing at how REmake looks like but for now, go play it and enjoy one of the most atmospheric survival horror games ever.

I'll leave you all with some comparisons of the characters.
