» REmake VS. Original » DIFFERENCES
--------------------------------------------------------

As stated earlier, Capcom didn't rush with remaking the original. Along with a complete graphical overhaul, Capcom also added new features.

The most notable of these is the inclusion of defense items.

These items are used automatically when attacked by an enemy (or optionally by pressing one of the shoulder buttons on the Gamecube controller) and thus letting you escape. The defense items comprise of knives which are used by both of the characters and unique to Chris is the flash grenade which can be used to devastating effects by cramming it into the mouths of the enemies and then letting it blow up or by shooting it. Jill's exclusive defense item is an electric tazer which can stun or kill enemies, thus giving you a chance for escape.

Zombies. The favourite friends of every Resident Evil gamer. Also the trademark enemies of Resident Evil, now, in REmake, they present a very unique threat. If you don't kill the zombies properly, which means you either decapitate them (there are oh so many ways to do this) or you burn them, which Capcom has made easier by giving you an oil canteen and places to refill it. But if you don't kill them properly, the zombies will stay there, laying on the ground, making you think they're dead. But invisible to your eye, the T-Virus in their body begins to slowly regenerate and mutate them - they begin to grow claws, their flesh turns crimson red and their eyes bright white and their muscles get stronger. Say hello to a V-Act, or more commonly known as a Crimson Head.

These guys are tough, they take more hits than original zombies, they run instead of limp around and they even claw you. These are, in my opinion, one of the most frightening enemies I've ever encountered in a Resident Evil game. Their scruffy moans give the chills and when you hear them running, you better start running as well...

REmake has a small new storyline as well. It involves the daughter of George Trevor, the man who built the Raccoon Mansion, Lisa Trevor. Her story is a sad one. She was used as a guinea pig for countless experiments by Umbrella. She was exposed to all of the viruses developed by Umbrella and much to their surprise, it did not kill her. It seemed as if she consumed all of the viruses and now Lisa Trevor is something unspeakably horrible.
